I had promised Tony that I'd set aside Saturday as a day for him and me. We went to the Science Center for our Saturday date, and really enjoyed the TITANIC exhibit. I walked away from it pondering a few things.
It was really interesting and I marveled at the artifacts and how well preserved they are/were. The exhibit made it come alive for me all the more. Instead of just something to read about, it was visual and real. We were given boarding passes of actual passengers of the Titanic. After the exhibit, or at least near the end of it, there's a huge list of survivors and non-survivors, and we were to look to find the name of the passenger we held on our boarding pass to see if in fact the person listed on our pass survived or not. It was really interesting. There were quite a bit of facts about the person in which we held on our boarding pass.
Mine was -
Passenger Name: Mrs. Amin S. Jerwan (Marie Marthe Thuillard)
Age: 23 From: New York, New York
Accompanied By: Traveled alone
Class: 2nd (it was divided into 3 different classes)
Cabin # Unknown
Traveling to: New York, New York
Reason: Marie had immigrated to America in 1909 and married the son of a Turkish clergyman. In early 1912, she returned to her family's home in Switzerland for several weeks to visit relatives, then boarded the Ship to return to her husband in New York City.
Passenger Fact: Marie had originally booked her return to the United States on Olympic. Growing uneasy when she learned that Olympic had gone in for repairs, she changed her ticket to sail on Titanic.
Even the passenger Tony was given, had some very interesting facts too. There were many to read about posted on the walls etc. I took it all in and pondered it greatly.
There were over 2200 passengers aboard... only a short number over 700 survived. I don't remember the exact numbers. There was an iceberg (more-like a huge ice block for visitors to touch)... it was noted that the water many lives were lost in, were lost due to hypothermia and the water was colder than the ice block we could touch. Again it created a visual for me to imagine further the horrendous circumstances these people had died in and/or survived in. I couldn't believe it. The exhibit was very well done and I was very impressed.
Tony had already seen the one from 3-4 years ago when it was at the Science Center then... and wanted to go again. I could see why. It leaves an impact upon one and helps to appreciate the things we have today. Esp our lives.
We enjoyed our visit to the Center and went out to eat for Italian food afterwards at Olive Garden. It had actually been awhile for me since I had been there. We had a fun date together and it was really nice.
Yesterday, I took it easy. A day of R & R. One I haven't had in a long time. At least over a month or so. I almost forgot how much I love just to relax. LOL. I visited a dear friend I hadn't seen in awhile and we had a good visit. I was able to sit and have dinner with her and catch up on things in life.
Overall, a great weekend... and I'll look forward to the next one. Lol.
Have a great week/day! :)
