Hey ... the adventures never end. I spent last night in E.R.
I had been experiencing some pretty bad chest pains for the last 3-4 days. I went to work as usual yesterday and the pain was pretty bad. I couldn't even concentrate at all on my work. (Had a hard time going to sleep too night prior). I talked with my supervisors and they encouraged me to go to ER.
So I did. Tony met me there. We were there from 4:30pm til 2:30am. It was packed with people and crazy busy. Some of us were quite gabby and had a few laughs despite circumstances. I even made a friend lol. JK. But I met someone interested in applying for work where I work...so I have a referral now. She was actually there for the same thing as me. Only her result was kidney stones. She was there with her husband, and then her mother or mother-n-law showed up with her son... and he was kinda cute...lol... anyway... we were all chatting and laughing.
Oh yah, in the very beginning it was ruled out that it was not relating to anything cardio. Thank goodness, cause I didn't know.
Prior to being in this waiting room which was the reassessment area... I had been taking chest x-rays, EKG, blood drawn (and mind you by new fire dept employees... I think they were taking opportunity to learn on me! ... and yes there were a lot of hotties roaming around in FIRE DEPT attire. Even at one time Tony told me there were 5 people in the small room I was having blood drawn.) They were having difficulties with me, as usual, my veins are hard to find. That was fun. Totally JK. I started to freak out from nerves and my hands and body became ice cold. Thank goodness, after they were done and after Tony rubbed my shoulder telling me it was ok, I started to relax, and one of the men in the room kept reminding me to "breathe" lol. I was fading in and out. Uck. I told them about how my father always passes out when blood is drawn, and reminded them at least I wasn't passing out, (though I came close-ugh)... even Tony told them it was very unusual for me to be so ice cold, cuz I'm always warm.
Then it was off again to wait. So after many hours later, I had my vitals taken, moved to a room with a bed, where the results were given from the tests and I'd be told whether or not I'd be admitted etc. Luckily that was not necessary. Turns out I have GERD. GastroEsophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) This is a condition where acid from the stomach backs up into the esophagus (food pipe). Most people experience this as occasional heartburn. Sometimes, the backup occurs so frequently that the symptoms are severe, and eventually damage may be done to the esophagus.
I have been prescribed medications to decrease the acid secretion in the stomach or to coat the esophagus. I'll need to avoid caffeine, alcohol, spicy, greasy and acidic foods to decrease discomfort. Need to pay attention to what I eat. If it makes my symptoms worse, I'll need to avoid it. I will need to avoid lying down after eating. Obesity may worsen the symptoms of reflux. Any evening meals should be eaten at least 2-3 hours before bedtime.
All of the things we already know. How about that?
So leaving the hospital at 2:30am, Tony and I went to gas station to fill our cars as needed, then stopped at Walgreen's to pick up the meds so I'll have them this morning. I got home at 3:30am. Yah I don't know why I"m awake at the moment, but I'm going to go back and lie back down after this email/blog.
I will have to schedule a follow-up appt with my primary doctor for ER follow up... and may need to also have my gall bladder checked too. They had given me meds that really helped the situation immediately. I was in so much pain, I would keel over and wanna cry. It was not only in the center of my chest, but also in the top center of my stomach too. Doc told me it is the eating away of the esophagus. Quite painful. Felt as bad as heart attack.
So all is good. I'm home and ready to go curl up with pillows again.
What a night!

You two are awesum! Thank you for your loving comments.
Yah, it's hard to find things to eat this week since what I have in my food storage is not ok to eat except all the cans of beans I have lol. I've been nibbling on a small white plain bagel yesterday morning and today. And I've been super tight financially this week until payday Friday. So I haven't had the money to go shopping really... so it's been kinda hard to avoid the foods.. so I've been skipping a lot of meals. Just a nibble here and there so I don't eat all of my roommies food. I will get food on Fri night... if I can just make it another couple days lol. I've been nibbling on popcorn at work, since I had a few packs in my desk. And that's a little greasy with the butter, thankfully it's very little... but I worry cuz of the grease. Oh well gotta eat something though huh? lol
I did sneak a burrito for lunch/dinner yesterday. I was starving at work, and knew of a fave burrito place about 10-15 min away from work, and having only 30 min lunch, I knew I could make it. I bolted over there, got my burrito and asked for my fave sauce, hoping and praying it was super mild this time, the green sauce, sometimes it can be spicy... and yay -it was super mild, no spice at all. I really didn't want to eat my bean/cheese burro without my fave sauce. lol
so i did cheat a little. and not drinking my fave soda has been hard too. i've been drinking diet coke for awhile along with coffee working all the overtime and to stay awake... i'll tell ya my head kept dropping all night... i had such hard time staying awake without the caffeine...lol.
i slept in today to catch up on some sleep - that felt great.
well you two have a marvie day,
